Therm. Fluorescence Detector

The fluorescence detector is up to 1000 times more sensitive compared to UV detectors and it offers high selectivity because only about 10 percent of organic molecules have fluorophore structures. These advantages of the detector are often used for toxicologic, environmental and food analysis (i. e. polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons PAH, vitamines, amino acids, aflatoxines, carbamates). There are only a few disadvantages of fluorescence detection: Some solvent compounds may cause fluorescence quenching and fluorescence measurement is temperature sensitive. To eleminate the disadvantage of temperature dependency, the fluorescence detector of Agilent Technologies is supplemented by adding a thermostatted flow cell. This enalbles higher reproducibility of the fluorescence results and measurement is no longer dependent on the temperature of the HPLC oven.
